PUTNAM TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) - There was a standoff in a house on the 1700 block of Merrick Drive in Putnam Township on Friday afternoon.
At least a dozen police vehicles could be seen surrounding the home. Police say a man ran into the home after they tried to stop him for reckless driving and he took them on a 6 mile chase. He also reportedly rammed a police car.
After two tense hours, officers stormed the house and found the suspect hiding in a bathroom, he was arrested without incident.
"There were so many police, they had M16's, I didn't want to see anything ugly so I stopped looking," said neighbor Richard Schramm who lives across the street.
The 28-year-old suspect who is from Ypsilanti was taken to the U of M hospital to get checked out. Police say he was making irrational statements.
We're told after he is examined, the man will be taken to Livingston County Jail.
The Hamburg Township Chief says the suspect will likely be charged with fleeing and eluding, resisting arrest and obstructing justice and malicious destruction of property and he could be arraigned over the weekend.
"It could have been sad, so I am glad it ended this way," said the neighbor. The people who live in the house where the standoff happened shared the neighbor's sentiments.
