Police are always on the lookout for drunk drivers, but rarely do drunk drivers come to the police.
However, that is exactly what happened Wednesday around 9:45 p.m. as a man under the influence was heading east on Warren Avenue in Westland.
It was all caught on the police officer's dash cam. The driver can be seen crossing over onto the double yellow line and into oncoming traffic.
He then hit a police cruiser that was sitting in the left turn lane on Warren. The impact caused the side and front airbags to deploy.
The officer had minor injuries and the front and left side of the brand new police car he was driving was damaged.
Witnesses who did not want to go on camera tell us there were a lot of emergency vehicles on the scene for hours – but no one was hurt severely.
