Man injured in attack near Lakeside Mall

(WXYZ) - Statistically, police say the area around Lakeside Mall in Sterling Heights is a very safe place.

People going to and from the mall don't often worry about being attacked and robbed. Police say that was what two armed and dangerous men were counting on.

Lakeside Mall had not been open for long. It was about 10:15 a.m. when a 51-year-old man was attacked while he was walking through the parking lot near Sears.

Lt. Luke Riley from the Sterling Heights Police Department  says two men in a gray SUV pulled up.  One got out and tried to take the man’s wallet and brief case. The man tried to fight back.

But then, the driver of the SUV got out and hit the man in the back of the head.

Ashley Stadler saw the scene that followed. She says she saw EMS crews rush the man onto a stretcher.
Police tell us he suffered serious injuries.

They are hoping information from witnesses will help put away the armed and dangerous robbers.

Witnesses say the gray SUV had a partial plate of 5614.

Ashley Stadler wants the robbers who took away her sense of security caught.

"I would never expect it. I am sure that guy didn’t expect it either," said Stadler.

Police say any time you are out and about, be aware of your surroundings. It doesn't matter where you are.

Even if you can't prevent a crime, you may be able to provide police with vital information. In the meantime, if you see a silver SUV with a partial plate of 5614 call Sterling Heights Police.
