(WXYZ) - The Detroit Lions announced Monday their future plans in the ownership of the team.
According to the Lions, Martha Ford, William Clay Ford Sr.'s wife will now take over the controlling interest of the team, and William Clay Ford Jr. will remain the Vice Chairman. This is a part of their long-established succession plan.
"She and her four children will continue to be involved in the ownership of the franchise, as they have during Mr. Ford's tenure," the Lions said.
This comes after owner William Clay Ford Sr. died Sunday morning. He was the controlling owner since he took over the team in 1963, owning it for 51 years.
