The Michigan Department of Transportation released some welcome news over the weekend for drivers.
The northbound lanes of I-275 between M-14/I-96 and the I-96/I-696/M-5 interchange are now expected to open by Labor Day, according to MDOT. The construction wasn't originally scheduled to be done until mid-September.
Workers have been working to replace 13 miles of pavement, repair 16 bridges, improve drainage, and fix entrance and exit ramps with the $75.1 million project.
MDOT says after the main freeway opens, the ramps will still remain under construction and additional work is expected to be done through the Fall of 2016.
