When you’re embarking on a massive closet clean-out, there are a number of digital tools you can use to get some money for your duds.

From the new Facebook Marketplace to eBay to apps like ThredUp and Poshmark, the options are plenty.

Poshmark, which launched in 2011, has provided a platform for people to buy and sell fashion. From top brands to vintage jewelry, you can find a wide variety of clothing and accessories on the app.

Ediza Ferris of Canton managed to turn her Poshmark hobby into a full-blown business. She stopped by Broadcast House this morning to share her experience using the app.

"Initially I was having a garage sale like most of us do and I was selling my high-end designer jeans, brand-new for like $10 and people weren't buying them...so my best friend introduced me, she said, 'you should try Poshmark,'" said Ediza. "People just started gobbling them up and I ended up making more than if I did it at the garage sale."

As sales increased, Ferris started a blog, sharing her tricks to making more money on the app.

She says putting time into styling your closet can translate into big sales.

"Having a really great cover shot is essential, you want to get something that's eye catching and that pops and really responds to your buyers," she said. "You always want to get a nice theme going throughout your closet."

A Poshmark spokesperson says one in 50 women in America sell on the platform. The company does have its fees. If your sale is under $15, Poshmark takes a flat $2.95 commission. Items that sell for $15 or more, Poshmark keeps 20 percent. The buyer pays for shipping, which is usually a $6.49 flat fee.

Sellers set their price points, but sometimes there is room for negotiation. Ferris says buyers can use the offer button to make a pitch.

"It's a win, win situation for everyone -- the seller and the buyer," said Ferris.

Ferris says Poshmark is a community with similar interests, connecting people who enjoy buying and selling fashion.

"The community in and of itself is incredible and you've got women from all different walks of life coming in and using this, a lot of women who found a new sense of independence, becoming a home business owner and finding a new career path...it's just amazing," she said.
