The video onboard the Royal Caribbean cruise ship Anthem of the Seas shows anything but a tranquil vacation.

Thousands on board the newly minted mega ship, headed from New Jersey to The Bahamas, were forced to endure hours of stormy unrest.

“It was horrifying, absolutely horrifying,” passenger and metro Detroiter Diane Sacka told 7 Action News. “How do you outrun a hurricane?”

The hurricane force winds meant passengers were ordered into their staterooms. Laura Varon Brown was one of them.

“It was just unbelievable. Things were toppling over {on the ship},” she says.

Emma Brown says folks always had faith in the Captain.

“I knew he would do what was needed to get us through the storm,” she says.

The boat quickly turned back after the storm and, guests say, the rest of the trip was uneventful. Free food and booze were offered and money refunded.

The cruise line says winds far exceeded forecasts.
