Michigan Association of Broadcasters names WXYZ-TV Station of the Year

(WXYZ) - WXYZ-TV has been named Station of the Year by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters. This is the fourth consecutive year that Channel 7 has earned the honor.

The MAB Broadcast Excellence Awards ceremony was held Wednesday night in Lansing.

In all, WXYZ-TV took home fifteen awards and was honored for work on digital platforms (the web, mobile apps and social media) as well.

“We are thrilled to be recognized by the MAB for our excellence in journalism and our community commitment,” said Ed Fernandez, E.W. Scripps Divisional General Manager and WXYZ Vice President and General Manager. “The honor is a testament to our continuing efforts to be not only the best station in Detroit, but the best station for Detroit.”

The Michigan Association of Broadcasters awarded the station with eight Best in Show honors in the following categories: New Media, Newscast, Reporting (Heather Catallo), Commercial, Weathercast (Keenan Smith), News Series (Ross Jones), Feature (Kim Russell), and News Special (Detroit 2020).

Also, Wednesday, Wayne State University junior Max White was honored with a $1,000 scholarship from the MAB. Max has recently joined the WXYZ digital team as a producer.
