Michigan's Make-A-Wish Foundation chapter is doing a first.

They are granting four brothers each a wish, as they battle the same, rare, life-threatening illness.

Twice a month, 18-year-old Dakota, 15-year-old Charlie, 12-year-old Brendan and 11-year-old Alec get hooked up to an IV for hours to receive a crucial enzyme their body doesn't produce.

The brothers all suffer from Lysosomal Acid Lipase deficiency.

Dakota said, "It's difficult but I'm glad we are in it together."

It's such a rare disease, they are the only ones in Michigan who suffer from it, out of 140 people in the world.

Brendan was patient zero of the family, when his blood tests came back abnormal before having an unrelated eye surgery.

The boys' mom, Rebecca Trendy, said, "It was hard because you want to fight for your kids and you want to find out what's going but the hardest part was the lack of answers."

Turns out, all four have the rare disease but took doctors eight years to diagnose them.

Without this newly approved treatment, their body would not be able regulate proper liver and heart functions , eventually causing organ failure.

Dr. Hernando Lyons said, "The patients have cirrhosis of the liver, the can have cardiovascular disease and strokes."

Every other Friday, the brothers come to St. John's Hospital in Detroit to receive the treatment.  They will have to do this for the rest of their lives.

Rebecca said, "They can have as a normal life as you can have, having treatments every other week."

When Make-A-Wish heard about the boys, they acted swiftly offering each of the brothers a wish, something they've never done before.

Sherri Collins of Michigan's Make-A-Wish chapter said, "It isn't a group wish, it's their individual wishes and whatever will make their heart happy."

The best part of the wishes, they say, the whole family takes part in it.

Rebecca added, "Which is awesome because they are fighting this disease together, so they get to do the fun stuff together too."

Dakota said, "I asked to go to the Bahamas. We are going to Atlantis. I'm hoping to get as much beach time as I can."

Charlie already got his wish of an electronic shopping spree.

"I was like a kid in a candy store," he explained.  "I love electronics. My dad does too. Everyone in my family had a great day that day. It was the best day of my life."

Brendan wants to meet a celebrity who has not been named just yet. "Because all these other things you can do some other time."

As for the baby of the family, Alec can't make up his mind.

Alec said, "Haven't really decided for my final decision."

The boys will share their story during this weekend's Wish Ball gala.

The event helps raise money to continue granting wishes to children like the Trendy family.

The oldest brother Dakota is now studying to be a doctor.

Dakota added, "I've seen so many kind doctors and doctors willing to work. I kind of want to be like them, almost."

The Wish Ball takes place this Saturday at the MGM Grand and tickets are still available.
