Mobility Awareness Month: Nominate local hero for chance to win wheelchair-accessible van

(WXYZ) - March is National Mobility Awareness Month.  It’s dedicated to showing how people with disabilities can live active lifestyles. You can vote for your local hero for the chance to win a wheelchair accessible van.

Mike Savicki is a Navy Veteran and multi-sport athlete. Ashley Lauren is an actress and restaurant owner. Both are quadriplegics, and both spoke to 7 Action news at noon about a new contest searching for local heroes.

If you know someone who triumphs over adversity you can enter their name for a chance to win one of four wheelchair accessible vans worth $60,000. These cars can change the lives of disabled people in need of transportation.

The contest is not limited to those with disabilities. It’s also geared to seniors whose mobility is becoming more limited. Caregivers, Volunteers and Educators are also able to enter.

Organizers are looking for good stories to upload to their website, stories of people beating the odds and beating adversity.
