Friday on 7 Action News at 6, we will take you inside the future littoral combat ship USS Detroit (LCS 7), but before we show you the state-of-the-art features, we want to give you some information about the ship.

The ship was christened and launched nearly two years ago in Marinette, Wis. Built by Lockheed Martin, the USS Detroit is the seventh littoral combat ship.
During the trials, the Navy conducted tests of the ship, "intended to demonstrate the performance for the performance of the propulsion plant ship handling and auxiliary system."
Officially accepted into service on Aug. 16, the ship will be commissioned in the city on Oct. 22. For more information about the commissioning, click here.
1.976 million gallons of water will go to the ship's four waterjets every minute. It can fill an Olympic-size swimming pool in just 20 seconds.
It is the sixth U.S. Navy warship to bear the city's name. it is a "fast, agile ship designed for a variety of missions in coastal waters as well as humanitarian relief missions."
It's design also supports interchangeable packages for different missions. That means it can be reconfigured for anti-submarine warfare, mine warfare or surface warfare missions as needed.
