New York Stock Exchange to re-open for trading Wednesday

NEW YORK (WXYZ) - The New York Stock Exchange will open for normal trading Wednesday according to a press release.

Trading will begin at 9:30 a.m. The NYSE Euronext building and trading floor are fully operational.

This comes after the NYSE closed Monday in the wake of Superstorm Sandy. According to CNN Hurricane Gloria in 1985, and a snowstorm in 1969 were the last major weather events to bring the exchange to a halt.

Tuesday Duncan Niederauer, CEO, NYSE Euronext said, "We are pleased to be able to return to normal trading tomorrow.  Our building and systems were not damaged and our people have been working diligently to ensure that we have a smooth opening tomorrow. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the families and communities suffering in the wake of this terrible natural disaster."
