(WXYZ) - ABC's Robin Roberts is in good spirits just one day after undergoing a bone marrow transplant.
Robin was surrounded by family and friends for the procedure on Thursday. She received the bone marrow from her sister Sally-Ann.
The GMA host is battling Myelodysplastic Syndrome or MDS. This is a rare blood disorder that affects the bone marrow and usually arises on its own. However, on occasion it can occur as a result of cancer treatment.
Robin's past cancer treatment may be the cause.
For the past several months Robin has been undergoing chemotherapy in preparation for the bone marrow transplant.
Robin will now wait for the next few days to see how she is progressing.
She's already anxious to get out of the hospital and go home.
All of us here at Channel 7 wish Robin the very best and hope for a speedy recovery.
