Events mark 11th anniversary of 9/11 in New York and Washington, DC

(WXYZ) - To commemorate the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, communities across the country have scheduled special events to honor those killed and injured on September 11, 2001.

Nearly 3,000 people were killed at the Pentagon, the World Trade Center and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania as a result of the attacks.

In our area, the city of Detroit has announced their schedule of events.

There will also be a full schedule of events at the locations of the terrorists attacks. ABC News is providing live streaming coverage of those ceremonies in the video players below.

There will also be two ceremonies at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. The first will be at 9:15 am and will be attended by President Obama. The second will take place at 2:00 p.m.
