WARREN, Mich. (WXYZ) - A dog owner was cited with a civil infraction after neighbors told police they witnessed him beating his pit bull-mix puppy with what looked like a pipe in his yard in Warren.
When Warren Police arrived at the home, they found the dog crying in the corner of the garage with a big gash on its leg.
We're told the man claimed that the 3 1/2-month-old puppy bit his kids and him, but police say they found no evidence to back up his statement.
Police issued the man a ticket and took the dog to a veterinarian. The dog is currently undergoing treatment for a deep laceration to the leg, several broken ribs and severe tissue trauma. We're told the puppy has stabilized and is under observation.
Police have now presented a warrant request to the prosecutor's office for animal cruelty and a possible torture charge.
