New allegations of wrongdoing with Wayne Co. Jail construction project

(WXYZ) - The 7 Action News Investigators have learned there are new allegations of wrongdoing with the Wayne County Jail construction project.

Sources tell 7 Action News that there are allegations Robert Ficano's administration may have withheld critical information from the Wayne County Commission years ago about the cost of the new jail.

Construction was stopped on the jail in June after the administration announced it was $91 million over its $300 million budget.

The Commission approved the project back in 2010.

Sources tell 7 Action News that withholding this information could have criminal implications.  The FBI is already investigating the jail project and other corruption allegations in Wayne County.

This information came on the eve of the Ficano administration making a major presentation to the Wayne County Commission about what to do with the stalled construction project.

The Deputy County Executive tells 7 Action News he is not aware of anyone withholding information from the Commission, and says he has not been provided any documentation to support these allegations.

He also says the county continues to cooperate fully with the federal probe.

7 Action News attended Wednesday's meeting about the plan for the jail. Wayne County officials recommended moving new jail to the state's Mound Road facility.
