New app can help you discover public art in MI

(WXYZ) - Whether you're an art lover, or just simply curious about the different type of art right in your backyard, then you'll love a new app that may help you sharpen your art history skills.

There is so much beauty in the State of Michigan, from art, to sculptures to fountains.

But most of the time, we don't really know about the artist or history of the pieces. Well a new app called MI Art Tours wants to change that.

The Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs has launched an app to help you be an art connoisseur, if you will, of the works around our state.

The free iPhone app features art tours of public art around Michigan.

People who download the app can search categories of art, like murals, sculptures or architecture.

It will also show you the art closest to you—with a brief historical description.

The app says curators have helped put together the tours to help you discover work across the entire state.
