New U of M billboard causing controversy

(WXYZ) - The University of Michigan's new digital billboard is at the center of controversy in Ann Arbor.

That's because city leaders believe it's a distraction for drivers. The sign is just outside the Big House and it's 27-feet tall and 48-feet wide.

City council members argue the sign is a danger to drivers, because it causes people to take their eyes off the road.

They're so upset about it -- they want the university to pull the plug on the sign that cost the university nearly $3 million to build.

Because the billboard sits on university property -- U of M is not violating any city ordinances, so council can ask but it doesn't mean the billboard will go dark.
