No heat for hundreds of U of M Dearborn students

(WXYZ) - A water main break caused the heat to go out at the Union off campus at the University of Michigan-Dearborn on Monday night.

The water was fixed in the morning.  The heat also came back on close to noon.  The facility is supposed to be luxury, furnished apartment living for students.  It opened this fall.

However, students told 7 Action News they've had several problems and are locked in with a lease.  Students pay $600 a month or more each and share units with two or three other students.

The complex is run by Urban Campus Communities, not the U of M-Dearborn.  A person in the management office called Dearborn Police and they asked us to leave, which we did.

The same company also opened a new student housing complex at Wayne State University two years ago and it was forced to close because of water main problems.  About 150 students had to move in that case.
