NOVI, Mich. (WXYZ) - Novi police are warning residents of men forcibly entering, or attempting to enter, seven apartments throughout the Novi area in the past five days.
Multiple witnesses describe the men as younger-looking black males.
They explain the men knock on apartment doors to see if anyone is home.
If a resident answers, the suspects ask if someone with a made-up name lives in the home. If no one answers, they forcibly enter the home and ransack the apartments for valuables.
Several witnesses noticed suspicious activity leading up to the entries, but dismiss the actions without alerting police.
The Director of Public Safety and Chief of Police David E. Molloy stresses to report any suspicious behavior. He also suggests that all residents, not just those who live in apartments, remain vigilant.
He asks for anyone noticing suspicious behavior to call 248-348-7100 or 911 if they see a crime in progress.
