WXYZ Editorial: TV-7 Downtown; expanding for the Detroit's renaissance

WXYZ Detroit - These are exciting times in Detroit. Our city is reinventing itself and we at WXYZ intend to be in the middle of this renaissance. It fits neatly into our mission and history.

What began 66 years ago on Woodward Avenue in Detroit has now come full circle. In 1948, Channel 7 signed-on the airwaves from the old Maccabees Building. And this fall, we will return to our roots. WXYZ'sbroadcast operations will expand with a new, highly visible studio in the heart of downtown Detroit.

The Chase Tower (or the Qube as those who work in the building refer to it) is in the Campus Martius area.  It will be our newest home for 7 Action News at Noon and other WXYZ and TV 20 on-air and digital programming.

Teaming up with Bedrock Real Estate Services makes sense. From Quicken Loans to JPMorgan Chase, their tenants are catalysts in the exciting changes sweeping Detroit.

For years, we have covered this region tirelessly. We've worked hard to not only be the best TV station in Detroit...but the best station FOR Detroit. That requires walking the talk. It means investing in our city and people in numerous ways. A new street-side studio is just one of them. This downtown studio puts us closer to all the people and neighborhoods of Detroit, and geographically closer tomany of the movers and shakers whose decisions impact those same people.

We think the future is bright for Detroit. The city is poised to grow again and we must grow with it. We love this community deeply and have an important stake in what it becomes over the next half-century.

Come watch us downtown at The Qube! To paraphrase President Teddy Roosevelt: "Our actions willspeak louder than words!"
