For just a moment, flashback to Detroit almost three years ago.

“Nothing changes from the standpoint from the ordinary citizen’s perspective. What this does do is give us an opportunity to begin to address  some of the city’s overbearing debt,” Detroit Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr said on 7-18-2015.

And now, Detroit being featured in a Pure Michigan, post-bankruptcy, comeback ad!

As we head into spring and summer travel, this $12 million national ad buy is obviously important to attract tourism money.  But its greater value will be to help change attitudes, negative perceptions and stereo types about Michigan’s largest city – Detroit.

The creative people behind Pure Michigan got it right!  The Motor City has had the best of times and worst of times.  But now, it’s time to experience the city’s renaissance.  See what’s new and next!  New businesses…eateries…housing…and attractions.   Discover the soul of this city.

Without question, Detroit still faces uphill challenges.  But we’re also a city with a fighting spirit that won’t quit.  We have an opportunity to reinvent ourselves and prove our worst critics wrong.  So far, so good!  Proof positive is Pure Michigan spending one-third of its overall annual marketing budget on Detroit.  Smart investment!

But the best ambassadors for our city are those of us who live here.  Please go to our website at WXYZ.com for all of the information.   As you plan your activities for this spring and summer include a day in the D and help spread the word about Detroit's comeback.
