WXYZ Detroit - Next week, the eyes of the world will be on Detroit once again. Not because of our balance sheet but because of our love affairs with cars and trucks. The Woodward Dream Cruise will be celebrating its 20th anniversary. This is a significant accomplishment for the "World's largest one-day automotive event!"
What started as a small fundraiser for a soccer field in Ferndale, now draws 1.5 million people and 40-thousand classic cars from around the globe. This once nostalgic throwback to the music and cars of the 1950's and 60's, has now become a main stream event with mass appeal. It is also an important part of Detroit's positive image and revitalization today.
As our city prepares to emerge from bankruptcy, events such as the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix and the Woodward Dream Cruise put Detroit on the world stage. This year, for the first time ever, WXYZ-TV will syndicate a one-hour version of our Dream Cruise broadcast to a national audience. From New York to L.A., the pride and ingenuity of our city will be on full display.
All of us must be great ambassadors for Detroit! The benefits of doing so will cruise our city and region into a promising future. We're proud to be the official broadcast partner of the Woodward Dream Cruise and we hope you and your family can come out and enjoy the cruise this year!
