(WXYZ) - The owners of the two dogs that mauled a man to death appeared in court to be arraigned on 2nd Degree Murder charges.
Police say Craig Systma of Livonia died last week when attacked by two Cane Corsos while out on a run in Metamora Township.
The husband and wife who own the dogs were arraigned separately on 2nd degree murder and possessing a dangerous animal causing death.
Sebastiano Quagliata was arraigned first in Lapeer District Court followed by the arraignment of his wife Valbona Lucaj. Their three children watched in the courtroom.
Prosecutors say the two kept their dogs even though they had a history of attacking people.
Their attorney says if the animals were so obviously dangerous - animal control should have stepped in.
Prosecutors voiced concerns in court that the two might be a flight risk- because they are immigrants facing possible deportation.
The judge set bond at $500,000 each.
