Pastor from Livonia hosts Santa Claus training

DETROIT (AP) - A Catholic priest who played Santa in the Thanksgiving Day parades in downtown Detroit has welcomed the jolly and the bearded for a little Santa training.

The Rev. Joseph Marquis, pastor of Sacred Heart Byzantine Catholic Church in Livonia, runs the St. Nicholas Institute, which is designed to feature the spiritual background of Santa Claus.

The 63-year-old Marquis, who was named to the Santa Claus Hall of Fame in Santa Claus, Ind., in 2011, said he welcomed 17 Santas and two Mrs. Clauses to a Detroit retreat center for the four-day seminar.
