Patient at Detroit adult care facility beaten by woman who was supposed to be her caregiver

Vera Gossett has been living at Strathmoor Manor, an adult care facility in Detroit, since 2007.

Her mother, Jacqueline, says Vera has autism and can't speak. She was horrified when she saw video that showed Vera being beaten by a woman who was supposed to be her caregiver at the facility.

"When I saw the video I just broke down and cried," says Jacqueline Gossett.

The video was recorded by Dominique Blade, another employee of Strathmoor Manor.

"Maybe 15 to 20 minutes into her shift she was just on her .. throwing water .. hitting her with a stick," says Dominique. "It was heartbreaking," she says.

Dominique says she doesn't know why her co-worker attacked Vera. She says she showed the facility's owner the video and he went to police.

Investigators say they arrested the 49 year-old woman seen beating Vera. They say all patients at Strathmoor Manor have been moved to other facilities.

The Department of Human Services tells Action News it is investigating the facility. A DHS spokesman says Strathmoor Manor has had violations in the past that were later corrected.

We tried contacting the owner, but were unable to reach him.

Jacqueline Gossett is now filing a multi-million dollar lawsuit against Strathmoor Manor and the woman seen attacking her daughter.

"I hope she gets exactly what she deserves," says Jacqueline.
