Officials say plenty of sites remain available at Michigan state park campgrounds for the Memorial Day weekend.

The Department of Natural Resources says campground reservations are up 12 percent over last year. Parks and recreation chief Ron Olson says that's a good sign for the state's tourism industry and suggests the summer season is off to a good start.

But there's still room for more campers.

Michigan's 102 state parks offer a variety of modern, semi-modern and rustic camping sites and lodging options.

Many are located on a river or lake and provide recreation opportunities such as kayaking, bicycling, fishing and hiking. Select parks also have disc golf and boat rentals.
