He fathered a child with her and now 26-year-old John Carlos Johnson is accused of killing Shalisa O'Dell. Warren Police said after reading Johnson his Miranda rights, the Detroit man confessed to the beating death of the mother of his two-year-old son.
On Monday, Johnson, who has no criminal history, was arraigned on Second Degree Murder in the 37th District Court in Warren.
Judge Dean Ausilio set Johnson's bond at $2,000,000 cash or surety.
On December 8, relatives of Shalisa O'Dell found her body in her Garrick Street home. Her little boy was with relatives at the time of the killing and they became concerned when Shalisa didn't pick her son up or call to check on him.
In court it was revealed that Johnson's relatives had just retained a defense attorney to represent him against the murder charge that, if convicted, carries a penalty of up to life in prison.
