POLICE: Man shoots nephew, arrested two days later when he shows up in court on old case

Two days after he allegedly shot his own nephew in the leg, a 51-year-old Pontiac man arrived at the place most suspects are looking to avoid - a courthouse.

Acting on a hunch that the man might just show up for a previously scheduled hearing on a domestic violence case, Oakland County Sheriff deputies were waiting and immediately took the man into custody.

It all began Tuesday when the man asked his 27-year-old nephew if he could borrow his cell phone to make a call.

Investigators say the 51-year-old was using his nephew's phone to make a secret phone call to his other woman. But when the girlfriend who was with him at the time found out, trouble started.

The nephew told his uncle he didn't want to be in the middle of anything and that's when the man allegedly shot his nephew in the leg, striking an artery.

The man drove his nephew to the hospital and split.

On Thursday, the 51-year-old had a previously scheduled hearing on a domestic violence case.

Detectives thought the man might actually show up for the hearing and he did.

Friday morning, the man, who has not been identified, is set to be arraigned.

His 27-year-old nephew, who was visiting from out of state, remains hospitalized.
