Police step up DUI patrol for St. Patrick's Day, how to get home safely

DETROIT (WXYZ) - Officers from across metro Detroit along with deputies from surrounding counties have increased patrols in an effort to keep drunk drivers off the road this St. Patrick's Day.

People pack the bars every year to celebrate St. Patrick's Day and police say drunk drivers are all too common this time of year, especially with it falling so close to March Madness.

Macomb County Sheriff's Deputy David Crabtree says he hopes that people who go out to celebrate have a good time, but are responsible when it comes to getting home.

"There's a number of ways you can be responsible," Crabtree said. "They have busses, taxi's, I mean call a friend, call anybody."

The Old Shillelagh will have limo companies on scene to make sure people get home safely.
