Police: Sterling Heights woman involved in adoption scam

(WXYZ) - Sterling Heights Police are asking if you've come in contact with "Kelly" or "Kendra" asking if you'd like to adopt a baby boy for money, and you paid money, police want to hear from you.

Police say their investigation shows the 46-year-old woman has used 30 fake names and seven Social Security numbers.  Her real name is Kelly Wright and she had several driver's license pictures taken between 1998 and 2012 to change her appearance.

She has been convicted of fraud.  Police say her latest attempted scam involved a newborn baby boy from a family with whom she made friends.  She met another couple at a McDonald's and told them the baby was available for adoption.

All they had to do was make a donation to the shelter where the baby's mother lived.  "Kendra" owned the shelter.  But police say it does not exist.

Other people may be involved in this case.

Police believe someone may have paid money toward an adoption, found out they had been scammed but did not contact authorities.

Police need any of those victims to make a criminal case.  Kelly Wright did not answer at the condo where she lives in Utica when 7 Action News stopped by.  But the black Jaguar sedan she drives was there.
