(WXYZ) - A scam artist is posing as a sheriff's lieutenant in Livingston County in attempt to steal your money.
Local authorities are warning the public not to fall victim to this scam.
Someone is posing as Lieutenant Jerry Gamble from the warrant department and attempting to collect money over the phone for outstanding warrants.
In one instance, the suspect claimed the victim missed jury duty and a warrant for their arrest had been issued.
In all cases, the suspect gives the victim an opportunity to settle the debt by credit card, over the phone.
The sheriff's department says they do not solicit funds over the phone to take care of outstanding warrants. They remind the public to never give out personal credit card information over the phone.
Anyone who receives a call of this nature is asked to call Detective Don Welch with the Livingston county Sheriff's Department at 517-540-7930.
