DETROIT (WXYZ) - President Barack Obama, Rev. Jesse Jackson, and Motown's Four Tops will led a star-studded tribute on Sunday, September 29 honoring Detroit Congressman John Conyers, Jr. for 50 years public service.
Conyers is our nation's second longest-serving member of the U.S. House of Representatives. Only Dearborn Congressman John Dingell has worked on Capitol Hill longer.
One of the key organizers of the event, the Rev. Dr. Jim Holley of the Historic Little Rock Baptist Church, told me Conyers was selected because of his dedication to politics and the civil rights movement. Holley says it will also be a good time to examine the status of African American economic empowerment in Detroit.
The tribute to Congressman John Conyers was held at Detroit's Greater Grace Temple and was free to the public.
