Battle for Michigan's 39th District

Klint Kesto vs. Pam Jackson

WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. (WXYZ) - The race for Michigan's 39 th District is shaping up to be a good one!

Assistant Wayne County Prosecutor Klint Kesto beat out five other candidates to win the Republican Primary in August.  Kesto will face off against Democratic candidate Pam Jackson, who received 68% of the vote in the Primary.

The 39 th District includes part of West Bloomfield, Commerce and Wolverine Lake.  The District is no stranger to controversy.  The District's current State Representative is Lisa Brown.  She raised eyebrows earlier this year during a debate over anti-abortion legislation, when she eloquently said, "Finally, Mr. Speaker, I'm flattered that you're so interested in my vagina, but no means no."  The next day, Representative Brown was banned from speaking on the house floor for a day.  Rep. Brown is serving her second and final term in the 39 th District.

The candidates who want to take her seat are Klint Kesto and Pam Jackson. Kesto is a small business owner, who says he's personally experienced the effects of government on small business.  Kesto is also a pro-life activist and supports performance based teaching.

Pam Jackson is a Math and Construction Management Professor at Oakland Community College, where she has been teaching since 1983.  Jackson's platform focuses on investing in quality education, protecting jobs and repealing the pension tax.
