Here's another thing to keep in mind. Not all of Michigan is actually in the same time zone. Metro Detroit and nearly all of the rest of the state operate on Eastern Time.

There are, however, four Michigan counties in the Central Time Zone. On the far western edge of Michigan's upper peninsula, each county that borders Wisconsin is one hour behind the rest of the state of Michigan. You may here some national news outlets saying that polls close at 9:00 p.m. in Michigan, but the they are actually referring to the four Michigan counties that are in a different time zone.

So, polls in Gogebic County, Iron County, Dickinson County and Menominee County will close at 8:00 p.m. Central Time, an hour later than the rest of Michigan.
