(WXYZ) - Representative John Dingell will become the longest serving member of Congress Friday.
Dingell takes the record from former senator Robert Byrd; a democrat from West Virginia.
Dingell was first sworn in as a member of the House of Representatives in 1955.
The House is not in session Friday as Dingell earns his record. Dingell will be honored by colleagues next Thursday in the Capitol Building.
He's served constituents for 57 years, 5 months and 26 days.
