Popular metro Detroit bookstore closing its doors after 25 years

(WXYZ) - When you walk into Royal Oak Books just off of Woodward, it looks like something out of a movie. There are thousands of books stacked inside the enchanting used bookstore.

The bookstore has been there for 25 years, but now it's closing its doors.

Pat Jonus, 79, started the bookstore with her late husband. She was happy running the store, but she says the business isn't what it used to be due in part to new technology such as tablets.

Pat will be closing the store this summer.

"I remember how much nicer it was when my husband was still alive," said Jonas.  "We could rotate… and find time for trips."

Author, Mike Davis has been shopping at the store for years.  He is not only a customer; Pat has been selling several books he wrote at her store.

"I think book lovers all over, certainly the greater Detroit area are going to miss the jewel," said customer Mike Davis.

Pat told 7 Action News she will soon be offering huge discounts on the books to get them out of the store.

She hopes to close the shop some time in August.
