Rally planned Saturday for free speech in Brighton

(WXYZ) - A rally is planned for Noon Saturday at the Imagination Station Park in Brighton for free speech.

It is being organized by James Weeks, II who is running for Congress in the Libertarian Party. Weeks tells 7 Action News, 19-year-old Colin Andersen had his civil rights violated when he was ticketed by police for cussing in April when he was in the park.

Police had stopped to ticket another teen for riding a skateboard in the park which is not allowed.  Andersen fought the ticket in court and was ordered to pay a $200 fine.

Weeks says he won't be cussing during the rally, but others may repeat the words used by Andersen. Brighton Police say swearing in the park used by families is disorderly conduct.
