DETROIT (WXYZ) - Three men were arraigned Tuesday in the brutal beating of 54-year-old Clinton Township driver Steve Utash.
Bruce Edward Wimbash, 17, was arraigned in 36th District Court Tuesday morning.
Wonzey Saffold, 30, and James Davis, 24, were arraigned Tuesday afternoon. All three are charged with Assault with Intent to Murder and Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm - Less Than Murder.
Bond was set at $500,000 each.
"When you have a half a million dollar bond for a 17-year-old boy, that's no bond," said Wimbash's attorney Randall Upshaw.
The threesome, along with a 16-year-old and a group of unidentified individuals are accused of beating Utash after he accidentally struck a young boy with his car on Morang near Balfour last week.
The attack came after he stopped his truck to check on the boy.
Utash remains in a medically induced coma. His family started an online fundraiser to help pay for his medical bills. Utash has no medical insurance.
A preliminary hearing is set for Wimbash on April 21. Saffold and Davis are set to be arraigned Wednesday.
"The Detroit Police Department is making excellent progress with this case. I will not comment further because this investigation is continuing and widening," said Prosecutor Worthy.
