Detroit Police are investigating after a 3-year old boy walked out of his child care facility without anyone knowing and crossed a busy street.

"It's a huge safety concern, actually, especially since my daughter attends this school," said a mother after learning what happened Tuesday at the New Center Child Care Academy in Detroit.

She had just picked up her child from the center, which is located on Second Avenue at Delaware in Detroit's New Center.

"For a 3-year old to just come out, it makes me think was someone watching him,"  she asked.

The parents of the child rushed to the center after being contacted.
Police confirm investigators from the child abuse unit spoke with the parents as well as staff members.
Action News was turned away at the door with a "no comment" by a man who was inside the facility.

State of Michigan records show this is not the first time something like this has happened.
In 2011, a 33-month old child also left the center by following another child and parent. That parent was not aware the other child was behind them.

The center was cited by Department of Human Services for a violation for not providing appropriate care and supervision.

Detroit Police tell 7 Action News their investigation into the incident is continuing.
