DETROIT (WXYZ) - Detroit Police now have a man in custody in connection to the shooting death of an 8-year-old little boy. The child was shot as he slept in his bed.
It happened in a home in the New Brewster Projects on the east side of Detroit just before 1:30 a.m.
Police say the man walked up to the back of the home with an assault rifle and started shooting.
Bullets went through an exterior brick wall and interior walls before hitting the little boy.
Police say shell casings found indicated it was an assault rifle.
Police say they believe the shooter had been stalking the boy's mom and had threatened her.
She lived in the home with her son.
The suspected shooter had no relationship with the boy.
Family members identify the little boy as Jakari Pearson.
