101-year-old Detroit woman evicted, her belongings thrown in the dumpster

DETROIT (WXYZ) - The Wayne County Treasurer's Office is working to sort out exactly what happened after a 101-year-old woman was evicted from her home.

Texana Hollis lived in the home for 58 years. Her 65-year-old son, Warren Hollis, ignored payment notices for several years and said he didn't have the heart to tell his mother that they were receiving eviction notices.

At first, it was thought to be a back-tax issue, but the house may have actually been foreclosed and sold.

When Action News arrived and talked to the woman she was visibly upset. She couldn't stop crying and told us she had no idea any of this was going on.

Her belongings were tossed into dumpsters outside of the home.

Warren Hollis says he feels like kicking himself. He says he received several eviction notices, but never told his mom.

For now, a neighbor is letting Texana and Warren stay in their rental house across the street.

A few hours after we talked to Texana, EMS came and took her to the hospital.

The eviction and failure to take medications at the right time made her disoriented. EMS workers said she was ok, but needed to be checked out.
