DETROIT (AP) - A judge has a stack of pre-trial issues to tackle in the case of a Detroit-area man charged with killing a young, unarmed woman on his porch.
Theodore Wafer is returning to Wayne County court Friday, a month before his second-degree murder trial.
Renisha McBride was fatally shot before dawn while at Wafer's front door in Dearborn Heights last November. Wafer's lawyers say he acted in self-defense, but prosecutors say he had other options, especially a phone call to police if he felt threatened.
The 19-year-old McBride had wrecked her car three hours earlier. An autopsy revealed a high blood-alcohol level.
Wafer's lawyers want to tell jurors about crime trends in his neighborhood. They also want to show McBride's text messages, photos and school records.
