A local triathlete is in the race for her life after a horrific accident left her in a coma

DETROIT, Mich. (WXYZ) - A local triathlete is in the race for her life after a horrific accident during her training left her in a coma. Family and friends came together Friday night to pray for her.

Amy Gluck was training to go to Kona, Hawaii next month for the Ironman competition.  She has been there before and is known around the world.

Her sister Kendi says "it's like a nightmare and I just want to wake up from it." Her boyfriend David Pasco says he's been sitting by her bedside at Henry Ford Hospital almost every minute waiting for her to wake up.

Amy and David were on a bike ride, training last Saturday in Dryden near Lapeer, when Amy was hit by a gravel hauler. Her injuries were devastating and she is in critical condition.

At a vigil at the hospital there were tears and prayers and lighter moments, too.  Friends talked about being beaten by Amy in other competitions, they lovingly called it "being Glucked".

Fundraisers will be held for Amy in the near future and the information will be on a Facebook page in Amy Gluck's name.
