Aerial crews battle massive two-alarm pallet fire in Detroit

DETROIT (WXYZ) - Early this morning, crews battled a massive, two-alarm fire in the Delray neighborhood on Detroit's southwest side.

Flames rose multiple stories high just a few blocks from Jefferson and West End Street at Kamps Pallets.

The fire is now under control after aerial crews were used to subdue the fire starting around 4 a.m.

Hundreds of wood pallets fueled the blaze making it very difficult on crews battling the flames.

Some workers at Kamps Pallets say they could see the fire above the tree line while driving into work this morning.

The plant's manager says that workers will not be laid off.  The company has other facilities where workers will be moved and production will increase.  Some production may continue at the affected plant.  Damages still have to be assessed.

The company is a family owned business, and already had plans to open another facility in Detroit in the coming months.  The fire is only expected to be a temporary setback.

Delray is a residential neighborhood, but many of the homes in the area of the fire are abandoned.
