DETROIT (WXYZ) - A real-life HAZMAT simulation was set up on a rail car on Detroit's east side Friday with the purpose to prepare our emergency responders for the worst.
The rail tank car is owned by CN Railroad, and involved multiple agencies including the Detroit Fire Department.
The firefighters had to play make believe, and began assessing the situation, then a de-con tent was put up. The Salvation Army was called in, and command posts were set up for both the fire department and the National Guard was put into place.
At the end of the day, the hope is that all parties involved walk away with a better understanding and idea of working together.
