DETROIT, Mich. (WXYZ) - There has been another invasion in a matter of weeks and again this time, the homeowner takes action shooting and killing one of the three suspects.
It happened just around midnight on Detroit's west side near Glastonbury and Lancashire.
"We are just off Glastonbury and Lancashire on Detroit's west side and I'll tell you what… this is the 4th time in a matter of weeks, since April that a homeowner has opened fire on someone that's broken into their home," said Sgt. Michael Woody.
"You're talking about the second amendment. You have the right to defend your home. You have the right to defend your property and your life and obviously this is just another one of those instances."
One neighbor says the area is normally quiet. "We're very peaceful… very family-oriented. People walk around here and starting as early as 5 o'clock in the morning so I know this has a lot of people off kilter this morning."
We’ve learned the the home invasion was a team effort. A driver and two other suspects.
The men entered the home in a side window, went downstairs where some family members were playing video games and that's where the shots started flying before moving to the main floor and out the door and into the front yard.
The driver ended up here, slamming into another home and pinning the homeowner's daughter in the bathroom. She had to be pulled out.
We caught up with the homeowner as he was bringing his daughter home from the hospital.
"All of the sudden I heard some shots, multiple shots. I then heard some tires screeching and the next thing I know the car had entered into the house."
Then he heard his daughter screaming for help.
"She was trapped in the bathroom," the homeowner said.
His daughter had to be pulled out of the wreckage.
We know that one of the suspects is described as being a black male, 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a thin build and both of the suspects that survived the shooting were last seen running south from the home.
