Bed bugs discovered at Detroit Medic EMS unit and in ambulances

DETROIT (WXYZ) - A pest problem has been discovered at a Detroit Medic EMS unit, and right now the place is off limits.

The sign on the door at Medic 4 on Detroit's west side serves as a warning.

It reads: Don't Enter, Bed Bugs, Toxic.

Sources tell Action News the critters weren't only discovered at the medic quarters, but also on two ambulances.  The rigs had to go out of service while they were scrubbed clean.

Medic 4 is attached to Engine Company 54 and Ladder Company No. 26. It's been sealed off to prevent contamination to the rest of the fire station.

Deputy Fire Commissioner John Berlin says the bed bugs were traced to a patient. A company has been hired to take care of the bed bug problem at Medic 4 this week.
