Bomb squad responds after grenade found near home on Detroit's northwest side

DETROIT (WXYZ) - The bomb squad has retrieved a grenade that was found next to a home on Chatham Street on Detroit's northwest side.

Police cars had blocked off the intersection at Chatham & Elmira. Investigators say it was a real grenade, but was inert.

7 Action News talked with the homeowner. She was in tears concerned that someone may have put the grenade on the side of her home.

The homeowner's son found the grenade. The homeowner says it looked like the grenade had been pushed down into the ground and her son did not see the pin in it.

She is worried because last year someone threw a gas can at their house.
