Chauncey Owens sentenced to life without parole in shooting death of teen

DETROIT (WXYZ) - Chauncey Owens was sentenced to life without parole Friday in the death of 17-year-old Je'rean Blake.

Both Owens and Charles Jones were involved in the teen's shooting death, which happened outside a strip mall on Detroit's east side.

The shooting led police to Jones' home where his 7-year-old daughter Aiyana was accidentally shot and killed during a police raid.

Friday, Blake's mom was in court for the sentencing. Through tears she talked about how much she misses Je'rean and how she speaks to his ashes in his absence. She also said despite Owens being selfish and a coward, she forgives him but will never forget what he did.

Owens spoke briefly proclaiming his innocence. Jones is set to be sentenced later this month.
